Jeffery D. Hammer Sr. just wanted a little more when he bored out his 2001 Harley-Davidson Road King from a stock 1450 to a 1550. Other than that, he seems pretty darn happy with his treasure. "You always want to make it your own and make it a little unique" Hammer stated, "It's amazing how many bikes are out there, and you rarely see two alike but you still want to make sure yours is different." Even in picking the color, Jeff wanted to make it his own. "I was going for a retro look and the color seemed to fit. I was worried because you are picking from this little color chip and I knew it may look totally different on the bike, and in the sunlight," Hammer said. He was very pleased with the result and Bike-Erie tends to agree. Even the shadow looks good on this baby! The color really seems to add to the old-school DuraGlide look he was going for. "It's a feel from the 60's" and according to Jeff, its' working. "I've gotten so many compliments on that color" he said, "...and even a few have asked what year is it, which tells me I'm on the right path." It's hard to make a new bike look old-school and that's part of the reason why Jeff picked the Road King in the first place. It's classic look was a great start already.
Another factor that adds to his retro vision, is something he added right after 911. The center console on the tank shows the stars and stripes in a throwback fashion. Jeff said he wanted to mark and remember the event in some way on his then new bike, and the console accent just seemed perfect. I can tell you, it really sets the bike off along with the matching ignition ring.
This bike is surprisingly stock other than the engine upgrade, handlebars, the few accents, and addition of a bit of chrome. But the tasteful way Jeff has put it all together really made it catch our eye. Blue led engine and ground effect lighting also dresses it up when the sun goes down. If you see this bike with the signature "JHAMR" license plate, you'll certainly understand what we mean! |
